Being a Game Master for an RPG can be hard work. You’re always preparing for the next adventure, re-reading rules to clarify what you forget during the last game session, looking for new players, and that’s all on a good day.
But being a Game Master is also very rewarding. You get to see players explore and discover a whole world you created. No two sessions will ever be the same, and things will happen at the table that you and your friends will laugh and joke about for years to come.
To work through it all, even the best of us need help once in a while. Reddit user TheAnchor4237 complied a great list of online tools and I wanted to pass them along with a few additions of my own. For those that will be attending tonight’s DM’s Class at Multiverse, these will be very helpful.
Treasure generator best one I’ve found
NPC generator, one of the better ones I’ve found, use it for ideas more than copying it
Kobold Fight Club Your best friend. Makes encounter building simple and straightforward
Name Generator If you are like me, you have problems coming up with names and need some sort of generator, this is one of the better ones. Has a few other cool tools as well that I occasionally use.
Donjon Fantastic multi format random generator. I advise using it more for ideas than anything I often use it for generating magic items that shops have
Inn Generator Great for that on the fly bar fight or plan ahead, depends on your style
Reputation system, haven’t used it yet, but I’m planning to eventually
Poison Generator Great idea generator for poisons
r/DnDBehindTheScreen Libraries Lots of world building tools. Whole subreddit is a fantastic resource
Random Dungeon Generator Good anti writers block tool
Weak magic items love this site to death, great for loot hungry parties that you don’t want to power up too quickly
Lots of good megadungeon resources
Tons of cool magic items, all well organized
Terminal Velociy and Aceleration Calculator In case you want to find out exactly how hard the halfling goes splat
Homebrewery I cannot praise this site enough. Best tool for making homebrew stuff, I often use it just to organize my custom monsters
Compiled /r/DnDBehindTheScreen tables Really great for getting ideas and flavor. I advise against using it mid game unless you plan to ahead of time asIt can be a bit temperamental and slow down your game. Sometimes you do need to find out what exactly the food cart is selling…
Instant NPC stat block generator Love this tool, has saved my bacon more than a few times

Same thing, different flavorBest rules lookup tool The search function works really well, and it has page references to the PHB
5e SRD wiki Has everything from the SRD organized and searchable. Send to your cheap players who wont buy or download a book
Market Generator If you want to be more stingy on what players can find. This can add flavor and realism to your world at the cost of tedium, use it with caution.
Conjuration List List of all conjuration targets for basic spells, good for reference if players like summoning things…
Drugs for DnD Looking forward to a player who uses this… Original here.
Sane magic item prices Use this a TON because I like to let players buy and sell gear
Initiative Tracker Coolest Initiative tracker I have found, haven’t used it yet though as my group are pretty close to Neanderthals when it comes to technology.
-=Edit=-
/u/jrobharing made an excellent set of catalogs for players to ease book keeping for the DM. I actually use this one a lot, but couldn’t remember where I got it, and didn’t want to short change him!
/u/Dr3vvn45ty mentioned this one. I had forgotten it, but I used this site a lot during the creation of my capitol.
/u/Toxic_Rat submitted his dungeon tile mapping tool. Looks really good for planning and running digital games if you are using dungeon tiles. I haven’t used it yet, but it has been added to the favorites!
-=Edit 2=-
Removed Spell card maker and spell card lookup tools due to OGL violation (whoops…)
Hope this helps someone, I’ve also got a big list of “Approved Homebrew” that I can post as well. All of them are things I feel are balanced enough to see play.
And here are a few additions of my own.
