Bag Tag League

As we have talked about over the last couple of Weeks, Multiverse is happy to announce the start of the March Bag Tag League.

What is a Bag Tag League?

Each participate will be given a tag that they can attach to their backpack or bag or just to keep with them while they are in the store. Each tag has a different number on it. If you have number 12 and another player in the store has say number 10, you can challenge that player to best out of 3 Magic the Gathering match. If you win, that player takes your tag and you take theirs. Over the course of the month the tags will change hands until at the end of the month we award prizes based on who has which tags. Everyone who plays in the league will get a prize. You will need to report your Bag Tag matches to a staff member so that we have a complete record.

How are the initial tags handed out?

This Friday, March 3rd, at the end of Friday Night Magic, if you have opted into playing in the bag tag league, you will be given, along with your prize packs, a tag based on your standings in the tournament. After this Friday, anyone can still join the league, and they will be given the next open tag

How often do I need to play a match?

Our hope is that folks will play as often as they can, but the minimum matches you can play to maintain your standing in the league is 1. If it looks like you won’t get in a match during a week, notify a staff member and we will either help you schedule a match, or based on the situation we may give you a pass for a week. Note that a pass can only be issued once in a month. If you don’t let us know that you are going to miss a week, or otherwise fail to play at least one match, you will be dropped to the bottom of the standings and given the next open tag. You will be given the opportunity to challenge a staff member to earn your tag back. This also means that anyone else in the league can challenge a staff member to get that tag as well.

Can I challenge someone that I’m paired up against during a tournament?

Absolutely.

Can I turn down a challenge?

No. You must accept all reasonable challenges. However both players can work together to set a time, date, and choose a format for the match. If you are having trouble coming to an agreement of you feel your challenger is purposely dragging their feet, talk to a staff member. If you are uncomfortable with a particular challenge, talk to a staff member.

What format is the league?

Any. When you challenge or are challenged by another player in the league, both players can be decide what format to play. It can be Standard, Frontier, Modern, Legacy, 1v1 EDH, Cude, Unhinged, Freeform, whatever you both agree on. The only exception to this is that all matches have to played on a 1v1 basis. No multiplayer games.

What does it cost?

Entry into the league is $20.00. If you pay to play during the opening tournament this Friday, you will still only pay $20.00. You will still have the opportunity to win booster packs on Friday as normal, but you will be entered into the league as well. Note: If you want to play this Friday but not participate in the league, you will can, by paying our normal Standard tournament entry fee of $5.00.

What are the prizes?

During the first week of April, Prizes will be handed out based on which tag you have. Prizes will consist of Store Credit that can be used to purchase packs, snacks, or anything else in the store. You will turn in your tag to collect your prizes. If all goes well and everyone is enjoying the league format we will run it again in April. Throughout the league we will asking folks for feedback for possible improvements.

Standard Pauper

Vector-Christmas-Dragon
Welcome to the day after Christmas!

Did the Christmas Dragon let you have everything you wanted from his treasure horde?

Since Friday was Christmas we didn’t run our regular Friday Night Magic. So we are running it tonight, but with a twist!

At 6pm Multiverse will be hosting a Standard Pauper format tournament.

What is Standard Pauper?

Standard Pauper follows all of the normal rules of the Standard Magic format, with one major difference.

All of the cards in your deck must be of common rarity.  This limits the power of the decks and opens the playing field to those that may  have more limited resources to build decks with.

If you don’t have a Standard Pauper deck, bring your cards up to the store early and we will work on helping you build a deck that you can use for the tournament.

Entry is $5.00 and our standard prize rules will apply.

Registration will start at 5pm and play will begin at approximately 6pm. If you want to join us but will be running late give us a call or post a message to us on Facebook.
